08 Nov What type of wax to use when having a male Brazilian wax
Soft wax is strip wax and is applied thinly with the waxing spatula at a 90 degree angle. It is removed with either paper waxing strips or the floppy material kind. Soft wax also known as strip wax is used with the strips over the wax to remove wax and the hair. Strip wax sticks to the skin and not only does it remove hair but it also helps remove dead skin cells, leaving the skin soft and hair free.
Hard wax or hot wax as it is known in Europe is applied much thicker and is applied with much more pressure. The pressure is much harder than when you apply strip wax, because I want to coat the base of the hair allowing for a clean pull. This is preferable rather than breaking the hair off at the base. It does not hurt when I apply the wax firmly and of course when I remove the wax it doesn’t tickle, but clients tell me its pretty painless. They come back for more so it can’t be that bad, can it?
Hard wax is removed without paper or muslin and is removed by very carefully flicking the wax parallet away from the skin, keeping the skin taut. Hard wax shrink wraps around the hair and doesn’t pull on the skin like strip wax. For this reason I like to use hard wax when I am doing a male or female Brazilian wax here in Darien, CT.
The beauty of hard wax is that you can go over the same area a couple of times to get a clean and hair free body part. With strip wax I have to be careful with doing this because it does pull on the skin more and no Esthetician wants to do temporary damage to the clients skin. For this reason I avoid using strip wax when doing a male Brazilian wax, but in certain areas during a female Brazilian I might use it.
